Verbist/Baars/Lagatie

The trio Verbist/Baars/Lagatie consists of Milan Verbist on piano, Tristan Baars on double bass and Arne Lagatie on drums. The three musicians met at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp in 2020, where all three were studying at the time. Tristan and Milan have since graduated. The repertoire consists of both own work written by all band members, as well as existing compositions. The emphasis of the band lies on playing together, with attention to groove, swing and free improvisation, but always with great attention to interplay, melody and space. They draw inspiration from Bill Evans, Kenny Wheeler, Keith Jarrett, Bobo Stenson, Herbie Hancock, Marcin Wasilewski, etc. The trio has already played concerts at Rataplan, GC Felix Sohie, Platform Bernaerts, during Jazz in Thals, at Jazzzolder, at Piano's Maene... and Milan's graduation concert at arts centre De Singel. They recorded a concert video for Klara. Klara selected Milan as one of 'De Twintigers' of 2023. In this series, ten young musicians get the chance to record a concert in Studio Toots (VRT), which is broadcast on Radio Klara and VRT MAX. Milan chose to record his own compositions with the band Verbist/Baars/Lagatie. The trio has already played more than 40 concerts and have grown into a close-knit group.
