Basile Rahola Quartet

  • Constituted : 01/02/2021

Bassist Basile Rahola decided to form his new quartet with 3 outstanding musicians from the Franco/Belgian jazz scene. Pierre Hurty, an eclectic French drummer; Matthias Van Den Brande, a prodigious young Belgian saxophonist who is very active on the Belgian and Dutch scene; and his lifelong musical brother, Wajdi Riahi, a highly creative Tunisian pianist, with whom he also plays in the Wajdi Riahi Trio. Basile has created a whole new repertoire for this project, drawing heavily on the feelings he has experienced over the last few years, both on a personal and human level, born of his encounters and travels. The quartet's music is dynamic to the extreme, with a strong emphasis on nuance, from pianissimo to fortissimo, and a focus on sincerity and spontaneity. They recorded their first album for the prestigious Fresh Sound New Talent label in May 2021 (released November 27, 2021), which they presented at the Jazz Station as part of the River Jazz Festival, and have since toured Belgium and France to present a new repertoire that they will be recording shortly.
