3Men & Sclavis

The musical paths of accordionist bassist Kristof Roseeuw and accordionist Philippe Thuriot have crossed for many years. They have toured with New York saxophonist Ellery Eskelin and with René Lussier, the renowned guitarist of Fred Frith’s guitar 4tet, among others. They strolled musically through Senegal and in 2004 were on stage together at the cultural opening of the Olympic Games in Athens.

They also played together for several years in the radioKUKAorkest, the quartet that Roseeuw put together at the request of KLARA (radio) and with which he provided live music for the radio program ‘De Kunstkaravaan’ for two seasons.

Where there is smoke, there is fire, and gradually both musicians developed the desire for their own ensemble. Roseeuw brought in drummer Teun Verbruggen, known from Too Noisy Fish. It was a dream combo !

At Gent Jazz, 3Men & Sclavis will realize a long-cherished dream. They are inviting Louis Sclavis, French leading figure in European impro music and one of the first to combine jazz with French folk music. 3Men & Sclavis was born.
