Maria Nys (° 1899) was Belgium's first Hollywood wife. She was born in Bellem near Aalter and was at boarding school in Eeklo. Her husband was not an actor or director, but a writer, Aldous Huxley, author of one of the most famous cult novels ever written Brave New World. The couple lived a long time in Hollywood. She made close friendships with stars like Greta Garbo, Charlie Chaplin, Marlene Dietrich and Walt Disney.
