Dylan Marey

Dylan Marey

Pianist and composer Dylan Marey moves with his quartet within the field of contemporary jazz, where space, color, and rhythm take center stage. His compositions balance melodic refinement and rhythmic complexity, drawing inspiration from artists such as Shai Maestro and Aaron Parks. With a background in jazz piano from LUCA School of Arts, Marey has developed his own sonic world: narrative and atmospheric, yet always grounded in an organic sense of rhythm. His music often originates from personal impressions of cities and places — from the Vietnamese Hanoi to Belzele in Evergem — where memory, motion, and introspection intertwine.

The Dylan Marey Quartet explores these musical landscapes with an intuitive and adventurous spirit. Marey is joined by Jérôme Castin (guitar), Pilou Barthélemy (bass guitar), and Louis Kubben (drums). They have been playing together since their conservatory studies. Their musical chemistry is close and playful: risks are embraced, silence takes on meaning, and improvisation becomes dialogue. During live performances, the music unfolds like a living organism — always different, always genuine. The music of the Dylan Marey Quartet embodies the spirit of contemporary jazz: open, lyrical, and constantly in motion, a search for authenticity and sound. The quartet is currently working on its debut album.

Alongside his quartet, Dylan Marey is active in various projects, including the Brussels funk band BBUNG (featured on Brussels Jazz Vanguard ONE and BLOODDANCE), the trio STAAR, the duo Touché, and the production collective Camiel Producties.
