Marie-Sophie Talbot Quartet
After a period devoted to writing for large ensembles, Marie-Sophie Talbot returns to a tighter, more intimate formation: the quartet.
Reuniting with Philippe Laloy and founding a group where women and men exchange ideas on an equal footing came naturally.
She develops music that reflects her personality, nourished as much by classical and popular traditions as by jazz. It is essentially instrumental music, where improvisation flows freely within finely crafted arrangements, giving each instrument its place, its timbre, and its space for expression.
This project offers a fusion of jazz, both melodic and rhythmic, guided by a search for harmony and coherence throughout the repertoire.
The quartet explores a melodic jazz style, built around Marie-Sophie Talbot's original compositions. It is a personal universe where melody takes center stage—like songs without words—and where improvisation extends this narrative and sensitive dimension.
The sound is both intimate and open, with particular attention paid to colors, mutual listening, and collective breathing.
