Cari-Jazz 8tet pays tribute to the fantastic Caribbean jazz scene by rearranging songs written only by Caribbean composers. The band, led by guitarist and arranger Alexis Nootens, consists of five powerful horns (trumpet, trombone and three saxes) held together by the rhythm section (guitar, double bass and drums). Together, the band plays a highly eclectic repertoire that combines fiery fast tunes, sunny rumba and mellow ballads. Each soloist has his own blazing moment, leading to epic sax battles or a deep groove driven by the warm sound of the trombone. Fully rearranged for an octet, the music sounds like a mini big band with hard bop influences.
