Joachim Ségalard

Joachim Ségalard

Joachim Ségalard discovered the piano as a child. He began studying jazz piano at the Versailles Conservatory (CRR) in Damien Argentierie's class. Life at the Conservatory, alongside other students in his class, led him toward a more "classical" approach to music. At the end of high school, he joined Paul Lay’s class at the CMA13 in Paris, where he also discovered the world of sound synthesis through lessons with Benjamin Moussay. In 2020, he earned his DEM (Diploma in Musical Studies) at the CRR and went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. He now holds two Bachelor’s degrees—one in Jazz Piano and one in Jazz Composition and Arrangement. He is currently continuing his studies in Michelino Bisceglia’s composition and arrangement class, where he is training in film scoring.

Alongside his academic journey, Joachim has co-led numerous ensembles in which he performed as a pianist or keyboardist, as well as a composer and arranger. From trios to octets, he has explored nearly every possible ensemble format. He has recently started writing for larger groups (Big Band and Orchestra) and is also deeply interested in electronic music and computer-based production.

Joachim has also organized several artistic events. He initiated jam session evenings that contributed to the development of the former venue "L’Ascenseur," now known as "Le Poste" in Brussels. He has organized multiple residencies—some multidisciplinary—through which he explored creativity beyond the scope of music composition alone.

With his various projects and ensembles, Joachim has performed on a wide range of stages—from intimate audiences of connoisseurs to dancing crowds, in alternative spaces, official concert halls, and outdoor festivals. These experiences have driven him to maintain a high standard in his work without ever falling into artistic elitism. His philosophy is to always do his best and never look down on anything.

The red thread running through his work could be defined as blending—of any kind. A mix of styles, techniques, or cultures. Joachim takes great pleasure in bringing together two seemingly unrelated worlds within a single creation.
