Laurence Cousseau Quintet

Through her compositions, Laurence Cousseau offers a perspective on a world suspended between the real and the dreamlike. Her inspirations blend introspection, imagined memories of enigmatic landscapes, fantasized memories of enigmatic landscapes, and works of art imbued with strong mystical energy. This results in music a that oscillates between restraint and playfulness, meditative trances and mysterious dispersions. This is infused with a jazz energy (Eric Dolphy, Charles Mingus), colors drawn from modern classical music, and a contemporary jazz language influenced by Magic Malik, Bo van der Werf, and Pierre Van Dormael. The group’s sound is distinguished by its original sonic textures, particularly through the combination of alto flute and bass clarinet.
