Happy 30th birthday to De W.E.R.F. Records
Belgian jazz label W.E.R.F. Records originated from Arts Centre De Werf in Bruges.
The name of the label is a reference to the name of the arts centre and also internally an abbreviation for 'Wasted Energy Record Factory'. At that point, who on earth wanted to put energy into a genre as condemned to death as jazz?
30 years later, the label is still going strong, with over 200 albums in its catalogue. The spirit and mission are the same: to support creative homegrown music, often against the current.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the label is organising 'W.E.R.F. Records Label Nights' this Thursday and Friday – 21.09 & 22.09 - at the Ancienne Belgique.
