Matthias Van den Brande Trio

The Matthias Van den Brande Trio was founded in 2021 by the Belgian bandleader and saxophonist, and features two top-tier Dutch musicians: Tijs Klaassen on bass and Wouter Kühne on drums. The intimate setting of the trio provides the musicians with incredible freedom to develop new ideas, grounded in their close friendship and strong musical connection. While approaching the trio format in a modern and personal way, their music remains accessible to audiences through strong interplay and melodic compositions rooted in the jazz tradition. In the summer of 2022, the trio won both the B-Jazz International Contest at Gent Jazz and the Grand Prix at the Tremplin Jazz ‘Concours Européen’ in Avignon. After releasing the EP 'Approaching The Present' and the full album 'Three Sides of a Coin', they presented a new project in 2025: Fields of Color, inspired by the paintings of Mark Rothko. For this new album, the renowned Belgian trumpeter Jean-Paul Estiévenart joined the trio as a guest.
