Concert "Gaëtan Casteels trio"

The Gaëtan Casteels Trio is a group born from the meeting in Barcelona between Franco Piccinno and Gaëtan Casteels over 15 years ago. Piccinno is originally from Naples and currently divides his time between Rome and Barcelona, having previously lived in London and Paris. Casteels returned to Brussels in 2012 after several years in Barcelona. For this concert at Ploef!, they are reunited with Pierre Hurty, who splits his time between Paris and Brussels and with whom they have played in the past. Hurty is also a long-time colleague of Gaëtan Casteels in his group Ozaín.

Although he has won several awards and competitions, Franco places his flamboyant technique and brilliant improvisational skills solely at the service of the music: no showmanship or pretense, only the music and the dialogue between the musicians matter. These travelers offer a repertoire based on standards, punctuated by a few original compositions by Franco or Gaëtan. These compositions draw on diverse influences but remain in the spirit of great trios such as those of Keith Jarrett or Brad Mehldau.
