Concert "Peter Hertmans septet - Elegy for the World"

In 2024, Peter Hertmans created ‘Inner Stories’ at the invitation of the string orchestra ‘Ataneres’, a collaboration between Peter Hertmans' trio and a string ensemble of 13 musicians. This collaboration resulted in several concerts and a recording, which was released on streaming platforms and is available for purchase on Bandcamp.

The result was so convincing that Peter decided to continue his work as a composer and arranger in a septet formation: a guitar, bass and drum trio complemented by a string quartet. The scores remained largely the same, but the solo instruments added more nuance to the individual colours of the strings.


The repertoire has thus grown from seven to eleven compositions, all written by Peter. In the septet, Peter is no longer the only soloist. The arrival of Alexandre Cavalière now allows for improvisation on the violin. Those who have already heard Alexandre play know that this gives rise to fireworks.

The production has been named ‘Elegy for the World’ because of Peter's concern about all the misfortunes currently occurring on a global scale. There is no fear or anger, but rather sadness at the political and ecological situation in our world. A captivating production with some previously unheard works, in a symbiosis between classical string quartet and modern electric guitar.
