Wajdi Riahi, Basile Rahola and Pierre Hurty met in Brussels and felt an instant affinity. They have been a jazz trio since 2020, and following Mhamdeya, a second album is now in the pipeline. Essia explores the horizons between Belgium and Tunisia, the two home ports of pianist and singer Riahi. During Walden, the trio – exceptionally with Stéphane Galland on drums – will step into the twilight zone between refined jazz, North African rhythms and the poetry of Arabic songs.
