James Gang is a Belgian traditional jazz ensemble inspired by the great bands of New Orleans. Faithful to the spirit of early jazz, the group draws its repertoire from New Orleans Jazz, Dixieland and early Swing, bringing to life the timeless music that gave birth to jazz.
Beyond performing the great classics of the genre, James Gang embraces a warm and authentic approach in which music becomes a language of sharing, emotion and human connection.
Under the leadership of trumpeter Stephen Armbruster, the band has developed several original projects that combine musical heritage, storytelling and live performance. Among them are:
🎺 Jazz and the Heart
A concert experience inviting audiences to discover the emotions hidden behind some of the most iconic jazz standards.
🎶 Louis & Papa Joe
A musical journey through the history of jazz, told through the relationship between Louis Armstrong and his mentor, Joe "King" Oliver.
Alongside these thematic concerts, James Gang regularly performs at festivals, cultural centers, heritage events, cocktail receptions, aperitif concerts and a wide range of public and private events.
In 2025, the group's artistic vision was further enriched through a musical immersion in New Orleans. During this journey, Stephen Armbruster had the privilege of sharing the stage of the legendary Preservation Hall with Wendell Brunious, one of the leading figures of traditional New Orleans jazz. This experience strengthened the band's connection to the living roots of the music that continues to inspire its work today.
James Gang is driven by a simple conviction: traditional jazz does not belong to the past. When performed with sincerity, it remains a vibrant, universal and deeply human music capable of bringing generations together and touching audiences of all backgrounds.
