Kim Versteynen & Tim Finoulst form a particularly close-knit, multi-layered and expressive jazz duo that explores the essence of music: subtlety, space, warmth and a natural form of storytelling. Their collaboration began with a shared love of melody, honesty and musical intimacy — a combination that made their signature sound instantly recognisable.
Over the years, Kim and Tim have built up a repertoire that spans a wide range: their own compositions, jazz standards, modern classics, and carefully chosen pop and folk songs, which they reinterpret with a refined, personal touch. What sets them apart is their ability to create maximum expressiveness with minimal means. Voice and guitar are not separate elements, but two voices telling a single story.
In 2026, their new album Signs, Signals And Sirens will be released, a collection of music that functions as a series of signs on the wall: moments of direction, warning, change and clarity. Here, the duo presents itself at its most mature, with music that remains both introspective and accessible. An album that you don’t just listen to, but also read — like a map of a life’s journey that is recognisable to anyone who is on the road.
In 2013, they won first prize in the Concours des Jeunes Talents at the Dinant Leffe Jazz Nights Festival, a breakthrough that definitively launched their musical career. The accolade led to a series of national and international concerts, where they received widespread praise for their refined interplay and emotionally charged interpretations. The press lauded their “understated intensity”, “organic timbre” and “open, breathing musical dialogue”. Audiences and programmers alike embraced the duo with remarkably warm receptions.
