Sélène Saint-Aimé Quartet "Creole Song" - Brosella Festival

Sélène is an Afro-French double bassist, vocalist, poet, and composer with Caribbean and West African roots. Her powerful artistic voice blends deep tradition with bold experimentation. She studied with legendary bassists Ron Carter and Lonnie Plaxico, and was mentored by saxophonist and conceptualist Steve Coleman. In 2021, she was awarded a Victoire du Jazz in the Rising Star category for her debut album Mare Undarum. Her second album Potomitan, released in March 2022, has received praise from the international press. 


Alongside her career as a performer, Sélène is deeply engaged in research and musical exploration. She is currently composer-in-residence at Tropiques Atrium in Martinique and a Villa Albertine laureate in New Orleans, Louisiana. Sélène also co-founded the non-profit Afropolis with Martinican percussionist Boris Reine-Adélaïde, dedicated to promoting and preserving traditional music from Martinique.
