Aka Moon

In 2022, Aka Moon celebrated thirty years of exploring, travelling, performing and meeting new people. Their twenty-fourth recording, Quality of Joy, is all about harmony, idealism and companionship. It's a keystone album that explores in depth new paths and new relationships to lyricism. It is also part of a particular time, a time that feels like a new world. Quality of Joy is the result of a very long process: from the writing, the laboratory sessions, the learning of a new instrumental technique for Cassol, enriched by lutherie work on the saxophone, to the recordings spread over nine months. From the new vibrations to the processing of the sound, everything was linked, and there was little room for chance.
The secret of Aka Moon's longevity lies in their relentless research into melody and rhythm, and in the expansion of their knowledge and horizons through encounters with musical cultures from the four corners of the globe. At a time when travel and concerts were no longer possible because of the pandemic, Fabrizio embarked on an inner exploration in search of the 'memory bubbles' scattered in his head from all his past musical experiences. It's a subtle work, centred on the emotions linked to these intonations, the paths and the melodic and harmonic doors they open.
