Having the vibraphone as the lead instrument in a trio setting is not that commonplace, and challenges the musicians to express themselves artistically and musically that much more. The transparency of such an instrumental arrangement allows each member of the trio to shine and be their most expressive, which to the listener might evoke some distant echoes of the great piano trios such as Avishai Cohen and Brad Mehldau. The group's name, Raft, is symbolic for the strong currents and unexpected changes in course the music takes which can be likened to the experience of real rafting.
