As every year, Leuven Jazz presents a series of theme combos by the jazz department of the LUCA School of Arts. Together with their teachers, the students develop a repertoire based on a specific theme or notable figure from the history of jazz.
Jazz is all about freedom and tradition. Contrafacts are compositions that create new melodies based on existing chord progressions. Think of how Charlie Parker and Dizzy Gillespie built their bebop classics on the harmonies of standards.
With his students, bass teacher Jos Machtel will guide you through the creative process of combining recognition and innovation.
