Nicolas Mortelmans SPACE Quartet

Nicolas Mortelmans SPACE Quartet

SPACE Quartet is an improvisation collective founded by sitar player Nicolas Mortelmans for his second album SPACE. Mortelmans studied with Anoushka Shankar, among others, and released his debut album MĀYĀ on the label WERF Records in April 2024. With this album, he played a club tour at home and abroad, performed at Gent Jazz and Sfinks Festival and received airplay on Radio 1 and Klara.

In October 2025, Nicolas will release his second album SPACE on the label Rotkat Records. For these recordings, he shared the studio with partners in crime: Roland van Campenhout, Stef Kamil Carlens, Tim Vanhamel and Simon Segers. The result of this musical encounter is a raw, spontaneous and honest record where all the music is improvised. Thus, Nicolas returns to his roots and experiments with psychedelic rock, ambient, funk and jazz.

Expect an intense concert that can be both meditative and explosive.
