Lara Rosseel

  • Instruments : Double bass
  • Date of birth : 16/09/1986 - Furnes

Lara Rosseel was born on the Belgian coast in Veurne on September 16, 1985. She grew up with the guitar, cello and percussion and obtained a bachelor's degree in classical guitar, with cello as a second instrument at the Lemmens Instituut in Leuven. A few years later she graduated as 'Master bass, Jazz and Light music' with Nicolas Thys (Taxi Wars, Chris Defoort, ..) and Jos Machtel (BJO). She spent the last year of her studies in Göteborg (Sweden) with double bass virtuoso Anders Jormin (Bobo Stenson trio ECM).

As a bandleader, Lara Rosseel introduces her audience to a playful new repertoire enthusiastically brought by an eight-headed band. Her debut ‘De Grote Vrouw' presents dancing melodies with wonderfully surprising rhythms, combining cinematic jazz and African traditional roots. Rosseel previously collaborated musicians and band such as Zap Mama, Chris Joris, Pierre Vaiana and Pierre Van Dormael. This wealth of inspiration can be heard in the marvelous compositions of her own band.
