Thierry Crommen

Thierry Crommen

  • Instruments : Harmonica
  • Date of birth : 30/11/1957
This Belgian harmonica player is a self-taught musician, he was very early involved in listening to great harmonica players like, of course, the Belgian Master Toots Thielemans. But he was also loving the sound of Blues harmonica that much. So, unlike most harmonicists who favour one or the other, Thierry became equally proficient on both chromatic and diatonic harmonicas. He was soon acclaimed as belonging to the elite of the new generation of harmonica artists. He's now for years busy with studio sessions, workshops and concerts and he's especially fond of playing in small combos, as with the Trio he formed with Erno, keyboards and Chris DePauw, guitar, for his first project as band leader. This project issued on CD La Nouvelle Donne (2004) (the same trio, plus guests) and revealed a finely-crafted, sensitive music - own compositions with latin, folk and jazz influences.

A new CD called « Versions Originales » was released in April 2007; the trio is upgrading to quartet with Achim Tang on double bass. Also featuring as very special guests : Bill Barrett, Karim Baggili and Sanseverino.

Experienced musician, numerous concerts and studio sessions with renowned french and belgian artits: Michel Fugain, Sanseverino, B.J. Scott, Johan Verminnen, Soulsister, Clouseau, Froidebise, and many others.

Main influences: Toots Thielemans, Stevie Wonder, Howard Levy, JJ Milteau, Brendan Power.

Performed in Europe, Japan and USA with famous guitar master Jacques Stotzem.

Played as soloist on the soundtrack of the film "Les Enfants du Marais" (The Children of the Marsh, France, J.Becker) .

Is the co-author, with JJ Milteau and Greg Szlapczinski, of a harmonica method published by Paul Beuscher.
