Arne Van Coillie

Arne Van Coillie

Arne Van Coillie was already self-taught in jazz during his studies at the KUL. This was followed by jazz training at the Lemmens Institute, where he was taught by the cream of the Belgian jazz world (Bert Joris, Frank Vaganée, Ron van Rossum, etc.). Several foreign musicians complemented this training in workshops and master classes.

He often and permanently collaborates with his singing wife, Kim Versteynen - in duo, trio, or with her band 'Kim In the Middle'.

With his trio (with Flor Van Leugenhaeghe and Gert-Jan Dreessen) he accompanies the most diverse soloists on a freelance basis. They also play standards and originals.

Finally, as a solo pianist, he consciously places himself in the tradition of the American Songbook: Gershwin, Cole Porter, Rodgers & Hart - and always Ellington.

Arne taught for several years at the jazz department of the Leuven Lemmens Institute, and is now attached to the Hasselt City Conservatory and Secondary School of Music 'Musart' - teaching piano and jazz history.
