Jordi Cassagne

Based in Brussels since 2014, Jordi Cassagne is a composer and musician from southwestern France, skilled in bass, double bass, and violone. He earned his Master’s degree in Jazz from the Koninklijk Conservatorium Den Haag in 2014, studying under Hein van de Geyn, Frans van der Hoeven, and Clemens van der Feen. From 2016 to 2019, he pursued studies in Early Music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium Brussel with Korneel Le Compte.
Jordi’s musical journey has taken him along a path shaped by his diverse artistic encounters. At times, he is drawn by the alchemy of jazz and improvised music, while at others; he experiments with various musical aesthetics, including early music, modal traditions, and alternative rock.
Jordi composes and arranges for various groups, including the quintet Barbastelle (since 2023), the post-rock group Limite (since 2018), the duo Yiasemi (since 2022) and his violone solo Soir Fossile (since 2021).
He has also been involved in numerous other projects over the years, including: Terpsichore (contemporary jazz), Haratago (Basque music), Julien Marga Quartet (jazz), Omega Impact (post –retro songs), Le Bal de Marie Galante (Caribbean ball), Beñat Achiary’s Un Poète à New York (jazz, improvisation). He also crossed paths with musicians such as: Denis Badault, Beñat Achiary, Pedro Soler, Nicolas Nageotte, Olivier Thomas, Catherine Delaunay, Léo Jassef, Théo Lanau, Jean Dousteyssier, Quentin Biardeau, Sam Comerford, Fabian Fiorini, Eve Beuvens, Bruno Vansina, Sylvain Debaisieux, Nabou Clearhout, Samuel Ber, Benjamin Sauzereau, Hélène Duret, Geoffrey Fiorese, Ananta Roosens, Mostafa Taleb.
His discography includes several albums that have been warmly acclaimed by the music press, including “Bengalifère” (Futura/Hôte Marge - 2014) and “Terpsichore” (Outnote Records - 2022), both of which were awarded “Révélation Jazz Magazine”. In 2016, the Julien Marga Quartet won the Trophées du Sunside, and in 2019, they also won the 'Tremplin' prize at both the Tonnerre de Jazz festival in Pau and the Cosmojazz festival in Chamonix.
With the Haratago quatuor, he had the opportunity to perform at many prestigious venues such as : AMR Genève (ch), Mens Alors (fr), Klangkosmos Tour (de), Mugham Center, Bakou (az), Alte Oper Frankfurt (de), Scène Nationale Bayonne (fr), Rencontres Polyphoniques de Calvi (Corse), Womex2023 (A Coruña, ES), Babel Music XP 2024 (Marseille), Théâtre de la Ville (Paris)
In contemporary music, he has contributed to a number of orchestral projects, including To You (Peter Schat), De Tijd (Louis Andriessen), Sponsus (Sasha Zamler-Carhart), Proposition of Fossils (Graham Flett), Chord Symphony (Tom Aldrich), Black Series (Peter Ablinger). Jordi has also collaborated with the interdisciplinary projects “Anatomy of a Silence” (Compagnie La Bâtarde - 2015) and “Ensuing” (Karyn Benquet - Nederlands Dans Theater - 2013).
