Motian Love is the new project by Belgian drummer Nicolas Chkifi, who pays tribute to the wonderful music of American drummer and composer Paul Motian, focusing on the sound and repertoire of his trio with Joe Lovano and Bill Frisell.
Chkifi (whom we know from the group Fnussjen at the Jazzzolder) has selected his favourite Motian compositions and put together a superb line-up of talented musicians, featuring the two tenor saxophonists Erwin Vann and Nicolas Kummert and the two guitarists Vitja Pauwels and Artan Buleshkaj.
The ensemble’s interplay is thrilling, featuring plenty of improvisation, melody and texture. Motian Love thus becomes an open love letter to the spirit and music of Paul Motian.
