Don Marsh V is the acoustic jazz quintet led by pianist and composer Wouter Van den Broeck, which presents its second album, IANUA. The title refers to the Latin word for “gate” and to Janus, the Roman god with two faces — an image that ties in with a central idea in Van den Broeck's compositions: melodies that develop and transform throughout the piece, as if stepping through a gate into another musical dimension. This attention to form and development is in constant dialogue with the fundamental ingredients of jazz — swing, groove and spontaneous interaction.
