Gaume Jazz Festival : Eve Beuvens Trio "Lysis"

Instrumentation that opens new perspectives and deeply stimulates the imagination

Eve Beuvens, piano / Lynn Cassiers, vocals / Lennart Heyndels, bass

The Project

Inspired by the humor and dreamlike quality of the poems of Robert Frost and Edna Millay, Eve used several of their texts as starting points for new compositions. To perform them, she sought instrumentation that opens new perspectives and deeply stimulates the imagination. She enlisted the help of vocalist Lynn Cassiers and double bassist Lennart Heyndels, both of whom use electronics in combination with their instruments.

The use of electronics combined with acoustic instruments gives the band an innovative sound. Combined with refined compositions, their music has a unique character. They create atmospheres that can be unsettling or humorous, that can lead to introspection or reveal surprising images.

Lysis refers to the biological process of a cell's membrane disintegrating. This illustrates their approach to music: transcending boundaries and deconstructing preconceived notions to patiently reveal the unexpected.
