Mâäk Quintet

Mâäk Quintet is one of Belgium's most active avant-garde jazz collective. The Mâäk Quintet is the core of the Mâäk collective and the starting point of all other main projects: MikMâäk (big band), Ghalia Benali & Mâäk : MwSOUL, Kawral, Kojo, etc. The quintet presents original compositions influenced by its diverse artistic encounters. This collaboration with musicians coming from totally different cultures, gives the music a new dimension. Because aside the improvisation common to jazz, you can sense the origins of its whole tradition. This group never slips into a routine and renews itself constantly. Everything is centered around vitality, dynamism and musical freedom in a clearly defined framework. The music is sophisticated, fascinating, magnetic, sensual. The musicians always look for new sonic, rhythmic and harmonic possibilities, and thus show that jazz can be synonymous for freedom, progress, discovery and adventure!
