Tina ‘Jara’ De Rous is a pianist-singer with a mission to make jazz accessible and popular. Her journey began with a study in cabaret at Studio Herman Teirlinck, where she collaborated with well-known actors such as Manou Kersting and Jan Decleir. Her strong stage presence is now a distinguishing feature of her performances.
After several years of diverse experiences, from theatre, teaching drama at the Conservatory in Bruges to existentialism and traveling the world, she found her way to jazz.
Her passion for jazz was sparked under the guidance of prominent artists such as pianist/composer Bas Bulteel and bass player Joshua Dellaert. Their mentorship has influenced her deeply and brought her musical calling to fruition.
For a short while she was also guided and inspired by pianist Wouter Van den Broeck, guitarist Dimitri Elegheert and saxophonist Werend Van Den Bossche.
In the past year, she has crisscrossed Flanders, Belgium, performing in well-known jazz cafes & clubs.
Jara’s inspiration comes primarily from the rich legacy of jazz standards. She brings classics to life by giving them a surprisingly personal and playful touch. She knows how to convey the magic of jazz and invites everyone to embrace its enchantment.
With her own compositions and renditions of well-known jazz standards, including translations in French she made, Jara wants to bring jazz to a wider audience.
Jara is working together with the internationally renowned producer Patrick Hamilton from The Globe Recording Studios for her upcoming EPs of jazz standards in Dutch and in French.
For these projects she collaborated with double bass player Bart De Nolf and drummer Toni Vitacolonna. She also recorded a song together with Raymond van het Groenewoud
