With '9 + 1 = 10' - an album she produced entirely on her own - Jara unveils 10 jazzy tracks, which she has been releasing one by one over the past year as 10 singles. The '1' refers to the opening track, her duet with Raymond van het Groenewoud titled 'Wel, dat hoeft niet.'
'With this album, I wanted above all to introduce people - especially those who aren’t really familiar with jazz - to different facets of the genre, and more specifically to its unconventional facets', she explains. The result is a colorful mix: a spicy Monk tune, a cheerful Disney song, a powerful Hancock-style groove, a timeless blues number, a comical Christmas carol, an exotic Ellington classic, an old-school Irving Berlin tune, one of Nina Simone’s greatest hits, a sultry cabaret number, and, to top it all off, a gospel song.
The album '9 + 1 = 10' - that is, the collection of singles - will be available starting September 17 on all platforms.
