With Zilt, jazz flutist and composer Stefan Bracaval opens new horizons, where instrumental and vocal compositions alternate in a continuous undulation. Together with Jeroen Reggers (guitar), Hendrik Vanattenhoven (double bass) and Gert-Jan Dreessen (drums), a sparkling, breathing interplay emerges.
The project bridges generations and gains extra brilliance through two female guest contributions: pianist Griet Grypdonck adds a subtle, refined touch to 7weven, while the young Brazilian-Belgian singer Helena Casella performs four songs in Portuguese, a language that naturally radiates musicality.
In his instrumental pieces, the composer explores symmetrical series and asymmetrical rhythms, seamlessly interwoven with more traditional jazz elements. He balances exploration and familiarity, always remaining true to his lyrical, melodic core.
The songs open a new dimension in Bracaval’s music. The composer temporarily steps back, allowing the voice to lead the story, intervenes in the background with commentary and response, and then returns to the foreground. The lyrics breathe nostalgia and introspection – memories, doubt, dreams, or the inner journey of the night.
