Slovenian bassist/composer has been working as a sideman with many international artists for over 30 years but has also kept his focus on his various projects. For In the land of… he brings together three most kind, gentle and giving musical creatures. Master trumpeter Jean-Paul Estievenart is probably one of the biggest talents in the region, a great musician with a clear and strong voice and an exceptional human being. Pianist Wajdi Riahi is called by some a rising-star, to Robert he is simply The Sun, the sound and the manifestation of joy and life. Drummer Wolfi Rainer is probably one of the most humble and giving creatures, his sound is clear and peaceful like a brook, his force is strong like a river.

The idea behind IN THE LAND OF… was to tell short stories or paint postcards, partially inspired by Murakami’s short stories. The music has a strong personality and offers a sense of space and calmness envisioned by the composer.
The inspiration for the compositions which are filled with strong melodies and colorful harmony comes from various images of places, people, emotions, stories and relationships. The quartet had one gig which was the first time they played all together and they went to the studio the day after. They created a sound that flows through desire, minimalism and impressionism but at the same time keeps the love for jazz and doesn’t compromise the curiosity and the need of staying on the edge.
