Considered as a talented bassist by the famous American magazine Downbeat, Giuseppe Millaci is one of the most active double bassists in the Belgian landscape: he has indeed distinguished himself as a leader on no less than five albums since 2017.

"Double Portrait" brings to light the relationship between the composer and his instrument, the double bass, consolidated during the lockdown: a combination of shorter pieces that pay homage to Giuseppe Millaci's taste for bold rhythmics. This pace stops sometimes, though, to pay tribute to exceptional melodies like the very successful cover of Bud Powell's "Time Waits". We also find a composition of the drummer Lionel Beuvens and the essential jazz standard "Beautiful Love" reinvented in a surprising version.

Inspired by the double bass solo albums of Dave Holland, Larry Grenadier and John Patitucci, Giuseppe provides melodies that let his instrument stand out from the rhythm section. The double bass takes here the place it deserves with a melodic but also harmonic dimension, thanks to superpositions of several voices recorded simultaneously ("Proemio", "Sunset in Galway Bay").
