Kaat De Windt

Kaat De Windt is a Belgian pianist who studied classical music at the Brussels Conservatory. She is known for her work in the contemporary-music repertoire with various ensembles.  As a member of the Bureau des Pianistes and duo partner with mezzo-soprano Marianne Pousseur she performed mainly early 20 th century music and played new works by composers ofthe Belgian contemporary music scene, amongst which Jean Luc Fafchamps, Walter Hus, Baudouin De Jaer, Jan Kuyken and Denis Pousseur. After focusing on performing for several years, she shifted her attention to composition and began working on her own projects.

De Windt has composed music for dance, theater, film, youth opera, choir and ensembles such as Ictus, Spectra, QO2 and the Quatuor Minguet. In addition she founded the contemporary jazz group White Wine Dark Grapes with Isnelle Da Silveira, Véronique Delmelle, Jan Rzewski, Jean Kowalski and Mirko Banovic. She formed the music-theatre company La Dea , together with Simonne Moesen and Charo Calvo and composed music for productions including Jan zonder vrees, Waves  and Tanto amore. She has created music for several KVS productions, directed by Guy Dermul, including Barakstad, Skieven  and Mest.  

She worked as a musical dramaturge, rehearsal director and assistant for VSPRS and Pitié, both music-dance productions by Alain Platel and Fabrizio Cassol (Aka Moon).  

Since 2015 she composes, performs and records music for her latest project, princess4president, the contemporary jazz group she founded with Naomi Sijmons, Annelies Van Dinter, Mirko Banovic and Etienne Plumer.

Kaat De Windt continues to create music and perform in various projects. 

As a pedagogue she worked at various music schools: Maison de la Création, at PARTS, the international dance school of A.T. De Keersmaeker, and at the Brussels Conservatory. At present, she teaches piano at the Academy of Sint Agatha Berchem.
