Arnaud Cabay
- Instruments : Drums
- Date of birth : 23/01/1990 - Liège
Originally from the Spa region, Arnaud Cabay began his musical journey at a very young age. Indeed, after his first piano lessons at the age of 3, he explored various forms of expression without ever finding satisfaction. After putting music aside for some time, he developed a deep love for jazz and particularly for the drums at the age of 17.
The son of vibraphonist Guy Cabay, Arnaud embraced his musical heritage. In 2018, he obtained a Specialized Master's degree from the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, completing his studies under the guidance of Thomas Grimmonprez, Thierry Gutmann, and also world-renowned drummers such as Gregory Hutchinson and Roberto Gatto (whom he met during an Erasmus exchange at the SLCM in Rome). That same year, he received the Playright+ award, granted by the neighboring rights organization Playright. Arnaud performs alongside many prominent musicians in the Belgian jazz scene, but in the summer of 2018, he severely broke both ankles. His love for music being stronger than anything, he began (while still in a cast) a Bachelor's degree in electric bass, his second love, under the tutelage of Michel Hatzigeorgiou and Benoît Vanderstraten. Despite the thought of being forced to give up drumming, he couldn't stay away from it for more than a few months.
He has played with various groups from the young Walloon jazz scene, including the Along Shorter Quintet, with which he won the Best Soloist Prize at the Comblain Jazz Festival's young band competition in 2012, as well as 4 of a Kind, Luna Moan, and others.
He formed the Bam! Trio, with Bastien Jeunieaux (guitar) and Maxime Moyaerts (organ).
