Lander Gyselinck, Doctor in The Arts

On 21 October 2025, Lander Gyselinck, artistic researcher at KASK & Conservatorium, defended his doctoral thesis to obtain the title of Doctor of Arts. Prior to the defence, a concert by Hihats in Trees took place in the Zwarte Zaal on Campus Bijloke. This was followed by a public defence at the same location, with a reception afterwards.⁠⁠

The artistic doctoral research 'Kind of Brew: 'live-evil' meets clap, beep, boom' explores the intersection of live performance and electronic production through the lens of a jazz drummer deeply immersed in electronic dance music (EDM) culture. Hihats in Trees (live) consisted of Hui-Chi Li, Mien Heyvaert, Wouter van Asselbergh (drums & percussion), Lander Gyselinck (composition, drums & percussion).⁠
