Guitarist Geert Hendrickx brings together a trio especially for this concert

Geert Hendrickx (guitar), Werend Van Den Bossche (alto saxophone) and Simon Raman (drums) form a bassless trio centred on subtlety, space and intense interaction. In the spirit of the renowned Paul Motian Trio, they create an open, spacious sound world in which every note counts and interplay takes centre stage.

With compositions by Geert Hendrickx as their starting point, complemented by reworkings from the Motian repertoire and influences from jazz standards, the music balances fragility and tension. Improvisation is not simply a means to an end, but the very heart of the musical narrative.

The three musicians share a rich history of playing together, from a wide range of projects to countless jam sessions. Geert Hendrickx and Simon Raman play together in Yskan, while Hendrickx and Werend Van Den Bossche are collaborating on a brand-new project that is still taking shape at the crossroads of jazz and Americana. In this unusual line-up, their individual voices merge into a distinctive, layered whole.

Before and after the concert, and during the interval, the DJs from Jazz Heks Sound System will spin the finest records from their collection at culture café de Fwajee.
