jazzathome: Tim Vermeulen Quartet

Tim Vermeulen, known for his melodic and cinematic approach to composition, places colour, dynamics and emotion at the heart of his music. After years of writing, refining and performing, Vermeulen now brings his musical vision together in a collection of original compositions that take the listener on a multi-layered and adventurous journey. His music strikes a balance between reflection and freedom, with scope for improvisation and interaction — the result of close collaboration with three remarkable musicians: Felix De Clerck (electric bass), Seppe De Bleser (alto saxophone) and Thibaut Deryckere (piano). Together, they form the beating heart of the quartet and breathe new life into Vermeulen’s compositions with freshness, intensity and subtle nuances.

The album, released in November 2025, also features two special guest artists: Artan Buleshkaj, a well-established figure on the Belgian jazz scene, on guitar, and Nero Vergaert, a promising young tenor saxophonist. Their contributions add further layers of colour and expression to the quartet’s already rich sonic palette. The result is an album that shifts seamlessly between refined composition and open improvisation — a personal, cinematic journey through Vermeulen’s musical world.
