Eighteen years ago, piano prodigy Esbjörn Svensson passed away. He took his very first steps outside Scandinavia on August 14, 1993, in… Rossignol! The festival's final evening will be dedicated to him.

The Esbjörn Svensson Trio (e.s.t.) is one of the most important and influential groups in European jazz. Although its success story tragically ended with the passing of Esbjörn Svensson in 2008, the enthusiasm it inspires remains undiminished. Thus, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of e.s.t.'s founding in 2023, bassist Dan Berglund and drummer Magnus Öström reunited with friends and collaborators to breathe new life into the trio's music.

What was initially intended as a one-off tribute to one of Europe's greatest jazz trios quickly blossomed into a resounding success. Following a triumphant concert before more than 2,000 spectators in Stockholm, the trio performed at the Cologne Philharmonie, JazzBaltica, the Leverkusen Jazz Festival, and other festivals across Europe, enjoying equally resounding acclaim. The Cologne concert was even released as an album (ACT Music) in 2024.

Given that all the musicians in this ensemble have brilliant solo careers, the group's continued success is all the more remarkable. But e.s.t.'s passion for their music, which has lost none of its relevance in over 30 years, and the palpable joy of playing together in every performance, suggest that this group will be a fixture on European stages for a long time to come.
