Driven by a vibrant and irresistible energy, Beyond Brazilian Stories takes you on a musical journey blending Brazilian traditions with jazz explorations.
It all began with an inspiring encounter between pianist Mathieu Bélis and double bassist Stéphane Dardour, who were introduced to the richness of Brazilian music by Philippe Baden Powell. From this, the Brazilian Stories project was born.
The group quickly expanded with the arrival of saxophonist David Florsch, drummer Louis Bao Lao and Äulne, a singer and flautist.
Together, they revisit the masterpieces of giants such as Milton Nascimento, Airto Moreira, Hermeto Pascoal, Egberto Gismonti, Dorival Caymmi, Edu Lobo and Moacir Santos, blending popular melodies with soaring instrumental passages.
But the project goes far beyond a mere tribute: the quintet also composes its own pieces, drawing on this Brazilian effervescence to create a world that is both authentic and innovative.
