As every year, Leuven Jazz presents a series of theme combos by the jazz department of the LUCA School of Arts. Together with their teachers, the students develop a repertoire based on a specific theme or notable figure from the history of jazz.
Together with his students, drum teacher Dré Pallemaerts focuses on the versatile American guitarist Pat Metheny (°1954).
In addition to his Pat Metheny Group (with regular partner Lyle Mays), Metheny has released solo, duet, trio and quartet recordings with the likes of Charlie Haden, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Dave Holland, Jaco Pastorius, Gary Burton, John Scofield, Ornette Coleman and Brad Mehldau.
