Dock in Absolute

This is not “his” trio, this is a band. Jean-Philippe Koch insists on this: “That’s why my name is not in the band name.” The Luxembourger founded Dock in Absolute, writes almost all of the pieces—but: “All three musicians are equally important.”

As a trained concert pianist who played chamber music in the Trio Koch with his father and sister (both violinists), he feels inspired by Rachmaninov, Brahms, and also Tigran Hamasyan. In the band’s music, elements of classical music and jazz, minimalism and prog rock combine into an energetic sound full of abrupt turns. Rhapsodic piano playing, melodic cells, and metric breaks are held together by catchy, repeated motifs and infectious grooves. Twice, the Luxembourgish cultural promotion music:LX named the trio “Export Artist of the Year.”
