The Piano-Taiko Duo
Taiko is a traditional Japanese drum. Maïa plays it according to the Tokyo Sukeroku style, which blends dance, percussion, and martial arts. In short, a total art form! Pianist Eve Beuvens has always been fascinated by the expressive power of movement, whether danced or simply staged. The search for the "perfect gesture" capable of producing the "right sound" inherent in the art of taiko has resonated with Eve in her piano playing. She composed music based on a Noh play by Maïa, and Maïa set two of Eve's compositions to movement and rhythm.
