Why not take the time to observe, listen and feel? Vocalist Emily Allison and double bassist Boris Schmidt have joined forces to deliver a delicate jazz that brings beauty to the fore. Music that takes the time to ask the right questions about our lives and our environment.

Picture this. You're walking through a forest. You want to breathe in some pure air, lightly scented with the essence of pine and dried bark. You put your ear to the ground. If a gentle melody tickles your eardrum, if a song as light as a breeze and bass strings as muffled as a rustle send a shiver down your spine, you're at the heart of Treehouse Days. It was here that Emily Allison and Boris Schmidt met and, from one stroll to the next, developed a soothing jazz influenced by poetic, evocative folk pop. The tender, gentle, melodious voice wraps itself like heather around the serene rhythms of the double bass. Happiness, at times slightly melancholy, is bound to overwhelm you, inviting you to rediscover the beauty of things and souls. More than a concert: an all-too-rare moment, intimate and timeless. Regenerating.

It was while Emily was looking for a bassist for her previous project, Songs of Old, that she came across Boris. From this first collaboration in a sextet - sometimes in a tentet - in 2016, a great musical and human complicity was born. Two years of covid and an accumulation of ‘large format’ musical experiences (from 5tet to big band) will have given Emily the desire to taste the novelty of a duo collaboration.

Treehouse Days was born in 2022 out of this search for space, authenticity and the complementary nature of voice and double bass.

Resting your back against the bark, seeing without being seen, balancing on a branch, contemplating the world...

So many little things that evoke the freedom and authenticity that characterise this duo's music.

Treehouse Days explores the mischievous relationship between Emily Allison's voice and Boris Schmidt's double bass, and looks at the world through the eyes of the living creatures and objects we encounter in our daily lives.

How have trees lived alongside humans since the dawn of time?

What surprising encounters does a park bench make every day?

How does a baby feel when it arrives in a new world?

Emily Allison and Boris Schmidt's tailor-made compositions are accompanied by a number of well-known and reinvented songs, all in a style that could be described as indie jazz-folk.

An intimate exchange with a hint of the carefree days of treehouses.

Their new album ‘Treehouse Days’ will be released on 14.03.2025 on Hypnote Records.
