Brax' Tree is a trio born of a project derived from Kobe Van Cauwenberghe's Ghost Trance Music septet, which has been interpreting and playing Anthony Braxton's music since 2020, sometimes even in the maestro's present, balancing the music between improvisation and notation. Delannoye, Verbruggen and Sakham were eager to deepen Braxton's sound by adding their jazz experience. In addition to Braxton's own compositions, the trio's new repertoire included original works created for the trio, as well as interpretations of the repertoire of Mark Helias' Open Loose Trio and Ornette Coleman.
Having had the pleasure of giving a few concerts last year, the trio is now open to other musical adventures.
Anna Webber has been a close friend and fellow saxophonist of Steven's since they met at the Manhattan School of Music in 2009. Anna has made a name for herself on New York's creative music scene and is an inevitable addition to the trio. Delannoye's desire to once again have a group of two tenors has also come true. Especially for the occasion, Delannoye will create new works for the ensemble and explore the similarities and differences in the personal vocabularies of the two blowers.
