Momi Maiga grew up in Senegal in the midst of the illustrious Cissokho family. This centuries-old dynasty of troubadours was the cradle of the kora, a West African string instrument. Maiga learned it from his uncle: the prelude to a flourishing career as a kora virtuoso and singer. He also emerged as an inquisitive composer, always looking for dialogue with other musicians, genres and traditions. On his album Nio ('soul'), his move to Spain can be heard in the mix of Senegalese music, flamenco and jazz. True to his family roots, Momi Maiga sings about human values such as solidarity, love and dignity.
