Johan Dupont Trio

The trio formed by pianist Johan Dupont, bassist Bo Waterschoot and drummer and percussionist Stephan Pougin promises an evening full of emotions. 

A classical pianist, Johan Dupont studied improvised music with Garett List at the Conservatoire de Liège, and jazz with Eric Legnini at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles. A curious and playful improviser, never demonstrative, he accompanied gypsy guitarist Samson Smith and lyrical singers Julie Mossay and Sarah Laulan. 

Having also passed through the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the class of Michel Hatzigeorgiou, then through the prestigious Musician Institute of Los Angeles, Bo Waterschoot is an authentic gifted of the bass in all its forms. She has accompanied artists as diverse as Urban Trad, Sébastien Duthoit, Bruno Castellucci or Sophie Cavez, to name but a few, in repertoires ranging from folk to contemporary through jazz, pop, metal, rock, and Brazilian music.

Former student of the jazz legend Billy Hart and Georges-Elie Octors (who directed the ensemble Musiques Nouvelles), Stephan Pougin is an eclectic percussionist, resistant to musical boundaries, This is evidenced by a career already rich in many collaborations, from Tuur Floorizone to Panta Rhei, from Steve Houben to Mikis Théodorakis, from baroque music to jazz, or from folk to Bossa Nova. 

It will be understood, these three are not those that mixtures and miscegenation scare. Johan Dupont’s unclassifiable compositions delicately explore a musical space bathed in childhood and nostalgia, populated by sweet-bitter memories of a lost paradise, where everything was possible, where nothing was missing. It is moving and luminous. It took three artists as intrepid as sensitive to venture into such territory. 

The concert accompanies the release of the trio’s long-awaited debut album, which is released on Flak Records (PIAS distribution).
