Anyone who still does not realise that Compro Oro is the most exotic Belgian jazz band of the millennium should urgently buy their latest album Buy The Dip. The Latin influences recur throughout their oeuvre, with ethnic and psychedelic sounds. The way the five men bring all the above together and mix it with African and Middle Eastern sounds, is almost hypnotic. Synthesizers and electronic effects spice up Compro Oro’s distinctive musical marriage of vibraphones, electric guitars, jazzfunk rhythms, exotic percussions and dubby bass patterns. “Compro Oro are a mercurial Belgian quintet with a penchant for the vibraphone”. If JazzWise says so, who are we to conradict them?
