The Siu Lam Project

When Kung Fu meets Music

When Carlo Nardozza was asked to perform at the KLASH festival in Genk with a project, he agreed instantly. He had one condition: the music had to klash with kung fu. The Siu Lam Project combines compositions by Nardozza with movements from the ancient Chinese martial art. Nardozza (trumpet), Daniel Daemen (alt saxophone), Christophe Devisscher (bass) and Daniel Jonkers (drums) share the stage with kung fu masters Sifu Wai-Lam Yip and Kau Lin Verbeemen. An authentic lion dance that dates back to the Tang dynasty (618-906 AD), echoes of a war drum and music go into dialogue. Improvisation and choreography take turns.

Nardozza has a thing for kung fu. "Siu lam is Cantonese for Shaolin, an ancient form of kung fu that was practiced te empower the body and mind, to unify them. Kung fu has thought me many things. My fascination started some years ago and is comparable to the way music touched me for the first time, long ago."

In The Siu Lam Project, kung fu and music share an equal place on stage. Acrobatic animal movements are supported and provoked by live music. 'When Kung Fu meets Music' or how two different worlds clash surprisingly well. An enthralling crossover that takes up the challenge with a fighting spirit.
